May 29, 2020
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
The Archdiocese of Chicago has set forth directives for reopening our church buildings in phases. Our parish has formed a re-opening team, and we have begun plans to welcome our community back to experience the grace of the Holy Spirit in the sacraments.
The Archdiocese is currently allowing parishes that meet the requirements to begin Phase 1/1A of the reopening plan. Our reopening leadership team has been working to satisfy the Archdiocese’s requirements for this phase, and we are now awaiting certification from the Archdiocese of Chicago to begin Phase 1/1A reopening.
Phase 1/1A allows parishes to reopen for Baptism, Reconciliation, weddings and funerals with a limit of 10 attendees. It also allows parishes to reopen for private prayer and Eucharistic Adoration in church for 10 attendees or less.
Phase 1/1A does not include allowing people to attend the celebration of Mass. Allowing limited Mass attendance will be Phase 2 of the Archdiocesan Reopening Plan, which the Archdiocese is not implementing at this time.
We are excited to continue to indefinitely live stream our weekday Masses at noon and Sunday Masses at 9:30am on Facebook and YouTube.
Per the guidelines of Phase 1/1A, we will soon begin to open our church building for private prayer initially on weekdays between 2:00pm-3:00pm. There will be a 20 minute opportunity for prayer per person. Details for participating, including a sign up process, will follow soon.
We care about the safety and well-being of our parish and our communities as we begin this limited reopening. At this time we would like to make you aware of the safety precautions to be implemented as per the Archdiocese.
No more than 10 worshippers will be allowed into the church at any given time
Prayer time opportunity will be 20 minutes per person
Masks must be worn while in the building; please bring your own mask
Please maintain 6 feet away from others not in your family
Upon entering the building, please sanitize your hands with the hand sanitizer provided
All seats will be cleaned after each time period
There is a flow for entering and exiting the church. Please follow the instructions of the greeters when you arrive.
Please stay home and stay safe if:
You are in a compromised health condition or are in a vulnerable population
You are a caregiver to someone who is sick
You are ill or have a temperature, cough, cold, etc.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as our parish starts reopening our church building- actually St. Francis de Sales has truly always been open in Jesus.
God give you peace,
Father David Ryan
How do we respond as Disciples of Jesus in challenging times?
Jesus tells us to keep our eyes fixed on Him. Jesus shows us that we have a loving God who is with us always and has a good plan for our future. Our HOPE and TRUST is in Him.
St. Francis de Sales invites you to participate in ways to stay focused on Jesus:
Parish Days of Fasting & Prayer On Wednesdays, let’s come together to fast and pray as a parish.
Throughout Scripture, prayer and fasting have been used as powerful acts of love. Fasting is normally thought of as limiting yourself to one meal, but there are many things we can fast from - social media, coffee, snacking. Whatever you decide to fast from, let it bring you closer to Jesus.
No Private Prayer The Parish church doors are NOW CLOSED for private prayer.
Virtual Sunday Mass Join us virtually on Sundays at 9:30am on Facebook LIVE and YouTube for Mass.
Virtual Adoration Join us virtually on days of fasting and prayer from 1:30-3pm on Facebook LIVE and YouTube for Adoration.
Virtual Weekday Masses Join us each weekday at Noon on Facebook LIVE and YouTube for Daily Mass.
Virtual Weekday Rosary Join us following daily weekday Mass on Facebook LIVE and YouTube in a community rosary.
Sacrament of Reconciliation by appointment. Call Father Ryan at 847 726-4723.
Grocery/medicine pick up For those in our community who are unable to leave their house and need groceries or medicine-- contact the Ministry Center, 847 438-6622 for more information or to help.
Scripture reading at home While we can not be together celebrating Mass, we can read the daily readings http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/031720.cf or read a portion of the Gospels, God’s Word to us, each day.
If the Holy Spirit inspires you with other ideas to help during this time, please contact Judy Reilly at 630 338-7543.
ANNOUNCEMENT FROM MARCH 15
In light of the recent suspension of Masses throughout the archdiocese of Chicago, we must remember to keep our focus on Jesus Christ. We should not be distracted from our mission of developing a relationship with Jesus, growing in that relationship and sharing Him with others. We all need the HOPE that only Jesus can provide.
Please consider your own disciplines of prayer and fasting as ways to stay focused on God and asking for His help. We also invite you to other opportunities our parish is offering:
— Our parish church doors will be open for private prayer from 7am-7pm.
— Saturday, March 14th 8:30am Mass will be our last publicly celebrated Mass until further notice.
— Father Ryan will offer 9:30am Mass on Sunday morning via Facebook LIVE so you can participate from home. We are set to be live 9:30am CST.
VIsit our FB page here: St Francis de Sales Catholic Parish Facebook Page to find the event to join. The “Waiting Room” for this live is open for you to join 3 minutes before we start.
If you have any trouble accessing Facebook for the live streaming, we are recording the Mass and will post for rewatching on our YouTube page. We will share a link to that once it is up and shared right here.
— Stations of the Cross are still on for this Friday Evening at 7pm and then cancelled until further notice.
We hope and pray that by our efforts, we will all stay smart, healthy and safe.
